My name is Dr Ruth White, I am a Liverpool based photographer and researcher.  My main interests include photography and the photobook, social class and the formation of identity.

I completed a fully funded PhD at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2019. My thesis is titled:
A Practice-led Investigation into the Role of the Photobook in Representing the British Working-Classes Since 1975
(click to download from Ethos).

My M.Res thesis, Making Visible: Social Class in the Art of Gillian Wearing (2012) (click to download), utilized the art of Gillian Wearing as a vehicle to investigate the lived experience of class and working class culture both inside and outside of the Art World.
